A Few Words from the Founder of Sun Catchers Project, Rita Riewerts.

Our Mission: To supply village size solar ovens to orphanages, schools and hospitals in developing countries; to practice and promote the responsible use of solar energy through integrated cooking; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment through the use of solar energy; and to improve the health of our children and generations to come by creating efficient sustainable cooking methods.

Vision: With this project we hope to create a global consciousness and universal desire to protect our natural forests by creating awareness of successful available energy alternatives to burning trees. We exist to improve the quality of life and health of people globally with the development of solar energy through cooking. By working with children all over the world, we strive to create a universal understanding and respect between our cultures at an early age. Our goal is that some day we may be more connected and compassionate for our fellow man, eliminating the focus on borders or racial boundaries.

Who We Are: Sun Catchers Project is a 501(c)(3) pending, California approved non-profit organization dedicated to supplying developing countries with the ability to use solar technology to cook food and boil water. Sun Catchers Project supplies orphanages, schools and hospitals in developing countries with village sized solar ovens capable of cooking 1200 meals or sanitizing 60 gallons of water per day.

We encourage people to teach their neighbors about solar energy and inspire people in villages to think about alternatives to burning charcoal, fuel and wood with the use of integrated cooking. We will return to each village, making sure the solar oven is working correctly and is making a positive influence. We can teach individuals in each village how to make family sized solar ovens out of locally made resources for personal use. We will continue contact with each village and provide additional food and cookware to solar oven users when possible.

An instructional program will be implemented into the Sun Catchers Project, not only teaching about solar cooking but also hosting several presentations and classes on the importance of certain nutrients in a daily diet and how to add ingredients to make foods more nutritious. We will also be encouraging micro-financing by organizing groups who will be able to work together in a successful, respectful way. Micro-bakeries will be organized to supply food for the children and also raise money for the target orphanage, school or hospital by selling bread to the village.

With this project, we not only hope to help people in developing countries but all over the world, including our own country, by encouraging people to think about alternative energy and actively participate in making this world a greener, cleaner environment.

Our website should be up within the next couple of weeks (11/5/08). www.suncatchersproject.com
